Making Big Bold Moves for the Movement and More!

2020 marked the 5th year of our 5-year strategic planning process. We celebrate all of the consultants, funders, partners and staff who helped support us as we transitioned into this next Bold Phase of our organizational life. Below we highlight some of those accomplishments and invite you into our new imaginings. The goal, as always, is culture shift that lead to the growth, safety and empowerment of marginalized populations.

New Book Release

Instead of the typical year-end report, we wanted to turn our learnings and experiences into a document that others can use in their own organizational work.  We also felt it important to let the voices of those we have worked with through the years be lifted up.  The outcome was a project spearheaded by Tobias Dean, our newly hired Communications Manager and Ari Leventhal, our Communications Fellow.  Ari is the one who came up with this bold idea last year.  She was just 17 at the time!  Orders are being taken now for this beautiful 48page book titled CHANGING TIDES: Stories and Images of Culture Shift in the South. The books are available for donations of $35.00 or more. We ask that you make one donation for yourself and another for those you feel could benefit from this body of work that includes diverse voices like Bishop William Barber II, Co-Chair of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival, Rea Cary, CEO of the LGBTQ Task Force, Andrea Jenkins, Minneapolis City Councilwoman, and Rabbi Judy Schindler, Director of the Stan Greenspon Center for Peace and Social Justice.

Love is in the Air!

The FCSJ Butterfly Collection is a product from our newly launched Transgender Entrepreneurship Program. Our soft launch was in December with The Holiday Collection. This was comprised of 8 original designs that reflected the holidays through the eyes of our first cohort of three designers. Available now is the big reveal for Valentines Day 2021. Check out the Love Collection HERE. You can purchase the cards for download online for $3.75, or you can purchase at White Rabbit Bookstore at 920 Central Avenue, Charlotte, NC. Because of the requests we received for prints of the cover designs, poster size versions of the original art will be available soon for donations of $20.00 (11x17), $28.00 (18x24) and $35.00 (24x36). Help us provide support for these artists. Stipends and a portion of all sales are provided to each participant.

Farewell Dr. Juan Battle & Board Members

We pay special tribute to Dr. Juan Battle who served as Board and then Co-Chair from 2016-2020.  Under his leadership and along with the support of our amazing Board, he helped transform not only how we raise resources for the organization, but also helped institute new accounting and management practices that established a platform upon which our current and future programming can rest.
